Episode 31: James Wolfgang Kuntz, Tarrytown Roofing Owner-Operator
Join podcast host, Joseph Cabrera, and Tarrytown Roofing owner and operator, James Wolfgang Kuntz, on today’s episode of “American Operator:”
“JC sits down with James, founder of Tarrytown Roofing, to unpack a life shaped by grit, urgency, and a drive to do better things.”
James walks us through the evolution of starting as a cowboy in Mexico at the age of 12 to starting his own roofing company in Austin, Texas – including hunting (and eating) a nine foot bear in the foothills of Mexico to shipping food for Trader Joe’s and selling a global FinTech software in the United States still using Pounds and selling discounted diesel software when it was $9 a gallon – and always asking the question ‘why’, always seeking to learn.
Then came the roofing space. James’ start in the roofing space began with one of the largest roofers – the ‘gold standard’ – in the United States who was gaining the majority of their new clients by simply door knocking. He discusses how that journey led him to start his own roofing company focusing on how to “differentiate” in a positive way, building Tarrytown Roofing. A roofing company that “cares about the details” and is disrupting the industry with clear communication, transparent pricing, and a strong focus on relationships over transactions. He’s “listening to people and implementing ideas that no one ever implemented” – and sharing how that’s making a positive impact in the roofing contractor landscape across Central Texas – and beyond.
